Make a Difference this Memorial Day!

On this Memorial Day we would like to honor all of the Americans who sacrificed their lives on behalf of our nation. Please take a moment on Monday at 3pm to remember those who gave so much.

We have found some excellent programs if you would like to help support our troops right now. There are many inexpensive options such as donating old cell phones to Cell Phone for Soldiers that get turned into pre-paid phone cards or how about donating all those paperbacks to the Books For Soldiers program? Such a great way to recycle too!

If you are interested in making a financial donation please consider The Wounded Warrior Project where you will find these words: The greatest casualty is being forgotten.

Trip to Asheville & Biltmore Estate

Just got back from a trip to the mountains. This was our first time to Asheville, NC. Our timing was perfect as the Festival of Flowers was going on at the Biltmore Estate. The azaleas were in full bloom. The mansion is the main attraction (largest house in the U.S.) you could spend days in there, but I was all about the gardens. We ran across this single redwood tree in the azalea garden. Lots and lots of walking but absolutely gorgeous! Enjoy the photos!

A Few Thoughts for Earth Day 2008

What should we be doing on Earth Day? I was going to share a list of things to do for Earth Day but, I think that maybe it's about doing less. Slowing down. Smelling the roses. Unplugging. Watching the sunset. So, if you don't get the chance to go out and plant a tree or pick up litter on your street, just take a moment to appreciate the skies above or the grass beneath your feet.

Take the Think Outside the Bottle Pledge!

Hopefully most people already know that most bottled water including Dasani, Aquafina & Pure Life are no better, cleaner or safer than tap water. In fact, they are tap water. It seems ridiculous that we actually pay to buy back tap water. If we stop buying bottled water we can save money. If we stop buying bottled water we can reduce petroleum needed to manufacture and transport bottled water. If we stop buying bottled water we can reduce landfill waste. I'm just sayin'.

The link below is filled with great information & resources to help you kick the plastic water bottle and BYOB - Bring Your Own Bottle. I took the pledge today, it's quick and painless. Check it out and tell your friends. Thanks!

Unexpected Benefits from Organic Cat Food

I've tried several different cat foods/formulas over the years - adult, senior cats, indoor formula and the "naturals" in an effort to keep hairballs a.k.a. "yaks" to a minimum. We finally made the switch to an organic cat food. It's made from organic brown rice, peas, carrots and has no corn or wheat. Yes, it's a bit more expensive, but totally worth it.

Not only did my cats love the taste, but they have regained some of their playfulness that tends to lessen with age (they are 9 and 14 years old). The oldest cat, Lucy used to "get sick" on a pretty regular basis. She now only produces the occasional hairball. I am absolutely thrilled for my cats who are much happier and there's less cleanup for me!
