The goal for 2009 is to present the 1 billion "votes" to the leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

VOTE EARTH

The Earth Hour site is filled with additional information on how to help spread the word, hold your own event and also has great downloads for posters, stickers and more. If you sign up for email they'll even send you a reminder before the event!

Why Buy Paraben - Aluminum Free Deodorant?

If you haven't yet converted to a paraben and aluminum free deodorant, read on. We've been testing three different options and here's what we've learned. First you might ask why paraben and aluminum free? These ingredients may be in your regular deodorant, antiperspirants and most cosmetics. Parabens (preservatives) and aluminum (temporarily plugs sweat glands) have been potentially linked to breast cancer. You can read more at the National Cancer Institute. There is no evidence that they CAUSE breast cancer, but on the other hand, they are suspect. Innocent until proven guilty? You decide. Here are the products we tried out:

Nature's Gate Organic- Lavender & Aloe Deodorant: Nice scent, worked well but was a bit sticky. Highest priced of the three at about $5.50. If you can get past the stickiness- this may be the one for you.

Arm & Hammer Essentials- Unscented but still had a lemony scent. Works well, goes on smooth, not sticky. Cost about $3.00. This one we liked best.

Crystal Body Deodorant Stick- Made from natural mineral salts. You'll need to wet the stone to apply (you can also buy a roll-on version). We liked it for light use but not for hot days or heavy work. Certainly a great value. This little stone will last a long, long time and cost about $3.00.

Three pretty good choices but we'll keep searching for the ultimate no sweat deodorant.

Free Shipping deal going on until Feb 28th at Sea Glass Organic.

Natures Answer to Anti-bacterial Soap

Another great giveaway from Sea Glass Organic. We're giving away a bar of Tea Tree and Seaweed Soap from Green Girl Basics. Just in time for cold and flu season. We will randomly select a winner from our e-mail subscriber list on January 30th, 2009. Winner will be notified via e-mail. This wonderful vegan soap is one of our favorites. It's a great alternative to chemical filled anti-bacterial soaps because it contains tea tree oil which is well known for its anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and antiseptic properties. It also contains lavender oil (another well-known antiseptic) as well as organic seaweed, which is rich in anti-oxidants and Vitamin K. This is the perfect deep-cleaning soap to help keep winter colds and viruses at bay and it's also effective against acne without drying out your skin. Carefully selected ingredients include: Saponified organic oils of Olive, Coconut, Palm, Palm Kernel, and Soybean; Essential oils of Tea Tree and Lavender; Organic Pacific Nori Seaweed.
